Facilities designed to sell or assist a client's operation's. To be successful, the project must accomplish strict program requirements, a tight budget, and very focused imagery. Retail projects create a tremendous challenge for the Architecture to attract the consumer in a fast-track bottom line retail environment.

RETAIL STORES and SHOPPING CENTERS

VOB BMW The new, VOB BMW, Showroom and Service Center was built to the north of the existing showroom located on Rockville Pike in Rockville, MD.  The new showroom is detailed to reflect the European styling and imagery presented by BMW. The building is approximately 50,000 square feet, three stories in height and contains two showrooms, the BMW "Life Styles Boutique", administration, sales offices and support spaces as well as the future home of the "M Gallery".  This area was developed as a specialty gallery where the customer can view the past and the future of BMW, concept cars, photos and models as well as interactive displays focusing on the manufacturer, the car and the user. In addition to the showroom building a garage to house the inventory, service vehicles and employees was also constructed.  The garage is connected to the showroom building as well as the existing dealership garage.  This allows for easy circulation between sites.  The garage also houses 10 full service repair bays and support. VOB Saab This "Signature Auto Dealership" is located in Rockville, Maryland and based on the Prototype design developed by Saab. DNC has adapted and refined this design in cooperation with Saab's Architect. The building is 10,110 square feet and includes a Gallery for the exhibition of Saab history and design, as well as for cars and accessories. Separate presentation areas are also provided for the individual display of the cars. The facility also includes service, sales, and support offices. View pictures

B.J.'s / SAM's Store The warehouse store, or "big box retailing" has become the trend for many retailers. This facility, located in Gaithersburg, MD was developed for B.J.'s with the DANAC Corporation, and is now occupied by Sam's. The City imposed strict aesthetic parameters due to a prominent location at a major gateway to the City from the interstate.

Sports Zone - Georgetown Selected to develop a modern industrial aesthetic for a fast-paced, trendy, urban retailer and then adapt   the design to seven separate locations. Individual stores include the multi-story flagship store on M Street in Georgetown, a large street-front store in Wonder Plaza at Howard University, and several in-fills within the major regional shopping malls.

Verizon (Formerly Bell Atlantic) Mobile Retail Stores DNC was selected to develop and incorporate new design ideas into the Bell Atlantic Mobile standard prototype. Neon and organic shapes & colors have been main themes in the design of various stores throughout the D.C. metropolitan area, including the stores in Germantown and Laurel, Maryland.

Giant Food

Giant Food Stores, Inc. has been a continuous client of DNC through the 40 years we've been in business. DNC has designed and/or prepared the documents for over a hundred new stores and shopping centers, as well as developed documents to modify existing facilities.  DNC now provides technical and construction document support for the Architectural Department of Giant Food and GFS Realty.

Giant Food Warehouse/Distribution Center This enormous 10-acre warehouse facility, designed and constructed sequentially over the years, provided Giant Food with a multi-tasking environment. The facility was fully air-conditioned and fully automated for both storage and distribution to area stores.

UPS Distribution Center Designed without the benefit of a site, the project was adapted to the site finally selected by UPS in the busy Washington-Baltimore Rt. I-95 corridor. In addition to the warehouse, DNC designed the truck service and other related structures.
