The design of technologically challenging projects has been an on-going forte of DNC. Whether designing an underground, blast-proof emergency operation center in the 60's, a five-story vertical addition on a 12 story building in the 70's, secure and shielded data centers in the 80's, or biological laboratories in the 90's, DNC has researched the program requirements, and successfully designed many state-of-the-art, and one-of-a-kind facilities.

By first gaining an understanding of the activities, budget, and schedule proposed by our client; we are then able to minimize "false starts", and produce facilities which are responsive to our client's program. Frequently it is a combination of focusing on the technological challenges, functional layout, and aesthetic imagery of the space that make the project successful. INSTITUTIONAL & COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTS
D.C Respite Center

We have undertaken a number of governmental, community, educational, day care, and church projects. Recently we have designed facilities for the US Department of Agriculture, the Baltimore Zoo, the Center for Continuing Education and the DC Respite Center. We are adept at directly managing the design process, even when our client is a committee. On some projects we have provided our services as a "pro-bono" contribution to the community.

On numerous projects, our clients have been provided with distinctive, cost effective solutions in this very competitive market. Focusing on ever changing retail and distribution strategies, and taking advantage of up-to-date technologies and construction methods has allowed our Architects to incorporate unique design features with minimal cost ramifications. Our experience extends from building design and interior architecture for a 750,000 SF corporate environment to ongoing corporate facility management and space planning for 1,500 SF tenant suites. Our clients include corporations, developers, contractors, real estate brokers and individual tenants. The key to our success has been listening to our clients, and using the latest technology to create distinctive, flexible, and cost effective facilities.


PLANNING, STUDIES, & RENOVATIONS

Successful Renovations, Master Planning, and Evaluation projects all require careful analysis of the existing conditions, along with a thorough understanding of the Owner's development objectives.
