Hollywood, MD
This project includes a renovation (~9,000 SF) and an addition (1,500 SF) to
the existing dining facilities for this educational center campus along the Patuxent River. This is one of several ongoing projects for the International
Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union.
The design approach adopts the form of the existing building gable to create
a tower like central form with intersecting gables. This architectural
element brings natural light deep within the dining hall and adds visual
interest to the interior space with its engaging geometry. The interior
aesthetic is traditional in character to better coordinate with the colonial
styled original section of the dining hall building.

site. Crisfield's Restaurant relocated to the Lee Plaza Building in Silver Spring, Maryland. In order to complement the Art Deco motif of the building, this restaurant was designed utilizing ceramic tile, glass block, and bar stools to reflect the imagery of a 1920's raw bar.

feet. The aesthetic concept for the building is
derived from the "farmhouse" or "agrarian" building style. The lower level
provides storage space for the golf course carts while the main level houses
the public entrance lobby, pro shop, kitchen, dining and bar areas,
restrooms, and necessary support areas. This area also includes exterior
porches for casual dining, drinks, or group activities. The entrance presents
a "welcoming farmhouse front door appearance". The pro shop accommodates a
manager’s office, storage area, sales counter, and floor display area for
retail merchandise. The dining and bar area will seat approximately 50 to 60
people and will be oriented towards the course. This area will then open onto
the porch area for its entire length to encourage the use of the exterior
space during moderate weather conditions and to accommodate groups larger
than 60 people. A "working" wood-burning fireplace will be located within the
dining space to create a warm ambiance.
